I met Laura at Cachorródromo da Redenção (Redenção Dog Park) in Porto Alegre. Back then, her furry companion was Davi, a white and beige ball of fluff. Davi quickly became friends with Fuca and Quinzé, my dogs.
After we moved to the US, Laura's pack grew! She adopted Vida (which means "Life" in Portuguese), a super cute mutt with mismatched blue and brown eyes.
Today, she's dedicating her time to volunteering at two flood relief shelters for dogs in our home state. One shelter is located in Alvorada, and the other is in Porto Alegre.
These shelters are urgently in need of supplies. Many of the dogs are still traumatized after enduring days alone in the floodwaters, or surviving nights and days on rooftops. They're uncomfortable and not feeling safe enough to eat their regular food or take necessary medications. Donations of blankets, food pouches, and clothes for larger dogs will be a huge help in getting these animals back on their paws.
And that's what we did.
